General information

Dr Oktawian Kuc is an Assistant Professor at the Faculty of Law and Administration, University of Warsaw. He specialises in international courts, public international law, and international organisations.

Dr Kuc is a graduate of the University of Warsaw (Master of Laws with distinction - 2011, Master of International Relations with distinction - 2010, Doctor of Legal Sciences with distinction - 2017), Harvard Law School (LL.M. 2012) and the Hague Academy of International Law (Directed Studies, Prof. Webb, 2023). He is an attorney-at-law admitted to the bar in Poland and in the State of New York (USA). He gained professional experience working in the public and private sectors (in an international law firm, in a boutique law firm, as In-House Counsel), and also served as an international civil servant for almost 4 years as Legal/Policy Officer at the UN Office in Geneva.

During his academic career, Dr Kuc was awarded: 

  • scholarship from the Minister of Science and Higher Education for outstanding young scientists – 2024-2026

  • individual award of the Rector of the University of Warsaw – 2024

  • distinction for the defence of his doctoral dissertation, University of Warsaw – 2017

  • Deutscher Akademischer Austausch Dienst (DAAD) scholarship for young researchers for a research stay – 2014

  • 2012 American Society of International Law Arthur C. Helton Fellowship

  • Harvard Law School Summer Academic Fellowship, Harvard Law School, 2012

He completed research stays at international academic institutions: Lauterpacht Centre for International Law, University of Cambridge as a Visiting Scholar; University of Copenhagen as a Visiting Researcher; Max Planck Institute for Comparative Public Law and International Law in Heidelberg as a Guest Researcher; Court of Bosnia and Herzegovina, War Crimes Department as ASIL Helton Fellowship; and a doctoral internship at Harvard Law School.

Dr Kuc has experience in obtaining grants and managing research projects financed in competitions by the National Science Centre.
