On 29 July 2026, a seminar summarising the term of office of the Human Rights Defender, Professor Marcin Wiącek of the University of Warsaw, was held in the Golden Hall of the Kazimierzowski Palace at the University of Warsaw. The event gathered numerous guests: representatives of the academic community, legal practitioners, representatives of the judiciary, executive and legislative authorities, as well as alumni of the Faculty of Law and Administration of the University of Warsaw.
The main point of the meeting was the presentation of Professor Marcin Wiącek's book entitled "In Defence of Human Dignity and Rights", a publication summarising the Defender's term of office and illustrating the complexity of human and civil rights protection. The conversation with the Author was led by Tomasz Pietryga, Editor-in-Chief of Dziennik Gazeta Prawna.
A special moment of the seminar was the address by the Rector of the University of Warsaw – Professor Alojzy Nowak, who, on behalf of the University of Warsaw Community, presented Professor Marcin Wiącek with a letter of congratulations. It emphasised the significance of the Defender's work for the protection of individual rights and freedoms, and expressed appreciation for an attitude combining academic integrity with the responsibility resulting from holding public office.
The seminar also provided an opportunity for an open discussion with the audience. Participants were able to ask questions about the publication and the challenges associated with holding the office of Human Rights Defender in a less formal setting in the gardens of the Kazimierzowski Palace.
During the ceremony, guests received a copy of the book "In Defence of Human Dignity and Rights" with a personal dedication from the Author. Conversations on this occasion continued long after the official part, confirming how important the questions about the condition and future of human rights protection in Poland remain for the legal community.
