Student internships
Dear Students,
we kindly inform you that the Dean's Plenipotentiaries for student professional internships handle matters related to referrals for internships and crediting internships during on-site office hours.
Outside of on-site office hours, the Plenipotentiaries remain available at the official Faculty email addresses:
- dr hab. Krzysztof Koźmiński, prof. ucz. — k.kozminski@wpia.uw.edu.pl
- dr Maciej Pisz — m.pisz@wpia.uw.edu.pl
We remind you that — pursuant to the resolutions in force at the Faculty — each internship must be registered in the internship system at least 14 days in advance: praktyki.wpia.uw.edu.pl. Registration allows the student undertaking the internship to be insured.
We also remind you of the obligation to comply with internal regulations, in particular the resolutions governing the organisation, undertaking and settlement of professional internships.
Rules for crediting internships
- The crediting of internships is entered once during the course of studies, upon presentation of documents certifying the completion of internships of the required type in the required scope.
- The entry is made within 3 months of the student reaching the total internship scope required by the study programme.
- If the internship credit has already been entered, no further entries are made.
- The credit entry is made by the Dean's Plenipotentiary for Student Professional Internships during office hours.

General information about internships
Student internships are a compulsory element of the curriculum at the Faculty of Law and Administration UW. The rules for undertaking them are governed by Faculty Council resolutions No. 01/12/2014 and No. 02/12/2014 of 15 December 2014 (for the Local Government programme, the resolution concerning the Administration programme applies accordingly).
Internship hour requirements
- Law – 320 hours, including a minimum of 80 hours in court
- Administration – 120 hours
- Local Government – 160 hours
When can internships be undertaken?
On the Law programme, non-court internships may begin in the 3rd year, court internships in the 4th year. On the Administration and Local Government programmes – from the 2nd year.
ECTS credits are awarded in the final year of studies and amount to: 10 ECTS (Law), 6 ECTS (Administration), 8 ECTS (Local Government).
Where can internships be undertaken?
On the Law programme there are two types of internships. Court internships may be undertaken exclusively in state courts and tribunals (of Poland or another European Union country): common, administrative and military courts, the Supreme Court, the Constitutional Tribunal, courts of EU Member States, and international tribunals.
Non-court internships may be undertaken, among others, in law firms, the prosecutor's office, legal departments of companies, the General Counsel to the Republic of Poland, the Ombudsman's Office, arbitration and disciplinary courts, and organisations such as the Helsinki Foundation for Human Rights.
On the Administration and Local Government programmes, internships may be undertaken in all institutions whose scope of activity corresponds to the profile of the studies. The internship programme should be related to the curriculum and include, among other things, becoming familiar with the legal acts regulating the institution's activity, internal procedures, obtaining information about ongoing cases, as well as drafting letters, decisions or notes.
How to complete an internship – step by step
Each student independently contacts the chosen institution and arranges the dates and number of hours. The next step is to register the internship in the system available at praktyki.wpia.uw.edu.pl (log in with USOS credentials), which must be done at least 14 days before the first day of the internship. Registrations made without observing this deadline are not accepted by the system.
If the host institution requires a Referral or Agreement to be signed, templates of these documents are generated automatically after registration and can be signed by the Plenipotentiary during office hours – only after prior registration in the system.
After completing all the required hours, the student obtains from the institution a certificate of completion of the internship (it may be a document in any layout, containing the student's and institution's details, the period and number of hours, a description of the activities performed and the signature of the institution's representative), and then goes with the complete set of certificates to the Plenipotentiary's office hours in order to jointly settle the internships and have them recorded in USOS.
For the duration of the internship, the University provides students with accident insurance (NNW).
