Manfred Lachs Center for Space Law

Manfred Lachs Center for Space Law was created based on the letter of intent signed on 29th May 2017 in the Tyszkiewicz Palace in Warsaw by research facilities aiming to popularize knowledge about space law.


The letter of intent was signed by the following academic institutions:

  • University of Warsaw,
  • Cardinal Stefan Wyszyński University,
  • Warsaw School of Economics,
  • University of Rzeszów,
  • University of Gdańsk,
  • University of Wrocław,
  • Krakow University of Economics,
  • University of Silesia,
  • Maria Curie-Skłodowska University,
  • John Paul II Catholic University of Lublin,
  • Polish Academy of Sciences.

The letter of intent was also signed by the following public administration representatives:

  • Ministry of Science and Higher Education,
  • Ministry of Development,
  • Ministry of Foreign Affairs,
  • Ministry of National Defense,
  • Ministry of Interior and Administration,
  • Polish Space Agency.

Terms of cooperation within the Center have been defined in the Agreement on the establishment of a cooperation platform titled:

"Manfred Lachs Center for Space Law Poland”


Main aims and objectives of the Center for Space Law

Rapid advancements in space technology entail scientific in technology, law, and economics. Manfred Lachs Center for Space Law aims to bring together scholars and specialists who will raise awareness of opportunities and benefits that arise from the space sector. The great challenge for the Center for Space Law is creating a cooperation platform for scientific units, which are parties to the agreement concluded on May 29, 2017. The cooperation is based on the mutual exchange of information on research on the space sector, as well as promoting scientific conferences and events that could inspire both the older and younger generations. At a time when people depend on space-based technology in so many areas of life, it is impossible to remain idle, so improving understanding of the space sector via the development of thought and science is fundamental.

  • Department of International Aviation Law and Space Law in the International Law Institute at the Law and Administration Faculty, University of Warsaw;
  • Institute of International Law, European Law and International Relations at the Law and Administration Faculty, Cardinal Stefan Wyszyński University;
  • Department of Commercial Law, Warsaw School of Economics;
  • Department of European and International Law at the Law and Administration Faculty, University of Rzeszów;
  • Department of Public International Law at the Law and Administration Faculty, University of Gdańsk;
  • Department of International and European Law, University of Wrocław;
  • Department of Public International Law and European Law, Krakow University of Economics;
  • Department of Public International Law and European Law, University of Silesia;
